PVR and INOX Challenge OTT Services With Monthly Pass for Unlimited Movies at ₹699

INOX and PVR

In a world where OTT platforms have become the go-to for many movie enthusiasts, traditional cinema giants are not ready to fade into the background. PVR and INOX, two of India’s leading cinema chains, have made a bold move to reclaim their audience.

Their latest offering? A monthly pass that allows moviegoers to watch up to 10 films for a mere ₹699. It’s a clear signal that the cinema experience is far from over, and these giants are ready to adapt and evolve.

PVR and INOX Countering OTT Apps

Over the past few years, OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ Hotstar have seen a surge in subscribers. The convenience of watching a movie from the comfort of one’s home, coupled with the pandemic-induced cinema shutdowns, made these platforms the preferred choice for many. But PVR and INOX believe in the magic of the big screen and are determined to lure back their audience.

The ₹699 monthly pass is not just a ticketing strategy; it’s a statement. It says that cinema chains are listening to their audience and are ready to offer value-packed deals to enhance the movie-watching experience. As per the details, this pass will be valid across all properties of PVR and INOX in India, making it a tempting offer for movie buffs.

Note: We have also explained the updates of PVR-Cinepolis merger. These two multiplex theater giants have been in the news since last year. Why? Due to the upcoming PVR-Cinepolis merger! Do visit the article to know more about this Rs.13,600 crore deal.

Why This Move Makes Sense For PVR & INOX

The cinema industry, like many others, has faced its share of challenges during the pandemic. With restrictions and lockdowns, footfalls in theaters drastically reduced. But as things are slowly returning to normal, there’s a need to reignite the public’s passion for cinema. And what better way than offering them a chance to watch multiple movies at a fraction of the cost?

Moreover, this move can also be seen as a response to the subscription models of OTT platforms. While OTTs offer a plethora of content at monthly or yearly subscriptions, PVR and INOX are emphasizing the unparalleled experience of watching a movie on the big screen. The aroma of popcorn, the thrill of surround sound, and the joy of watching a story unfold on a giant screen – these are experiences that OTT can’t replicate.

The Financial Angle

While on the surface, it might seem like a risky move, especially considering the ticket prices for a single movie in metropolitan cities, there’s more to the story. The idea is to increase footfall, and with more people coming in, there’s a higher chance of ancillary revenue generation. Think of the popcorn, the beverages, the nachos – all the goodies that moviegoers love to munch on. The increased footfall can significantly boost the sales of food and beverages, making up for the reduced ticket prices.

The Road Ahead For PVR & Inox

The introduction of the ₹699 monthly pass is a testament to the fact that cinema chains are ready to innovate and adapt. It’s a move that acknowledges the competition from OTT platforms but also emphasizes the unique offerings of a cinema hall.

However, the success of this strategy will depend on various factors – the movie lineup, the audience’s response, and the overall cinema-going culture in the post-pandemic world. It’s a gamble, but one that could pay off handsomely if executed well.

In conclusion, while OTT platforms have carved a niche for themselves, cinema halls are far from obsolete. The tactile experience of watching a movie, the collective gasps, laughs, and tears, is something that can’t be replicated at home.
