Ferraris, Bugattis, BMWs, Audis…
These aren’t just names but owning them is a dream of most of the Indians. Have you dreamt of purchasing them at much cheaper prices? If yes, then the abandoned cars of Dubai are for you! But wait… It is not as sweet as it sounds.
For that, you must understand the whole concept of Dubai abandoned Cars. So, let’s begin!
1. What are the Abandoned Cars in Dubai?
As the name suggests, the luxurious cars that are abandoned by their owners are tagged as “Abandoned Cars.” Sounds so lame… isn’t it? But as per Dubai officials, you can call a vehicle abandoned only when-
- The vehicle remains in a public or private place for more than 30 days.
- The owner is out of reach and cannot be contacted.
This is what the abandoned cars of Dubai look like-
Not just one or two but more than 3000 cars are deserted like that. A city with uncountable skyscrapers can have super-rich guys who can buy and abandon these luxurious cars whenever they want… You may say!
Well, that’s not the case here.
2. Why the Supercars are Abandoned in Dubai?
Okay, so here comes the crucial part. Before you purchase these abandoned cars, you must know the backstory. So, let’s look into the reasons behind it-
Unpredictable Financial Crisis
Dubai is all about a rich lifestyle. People from all over the world flock to Dubai for high-paying jobs to fit into the “rich” segment of the Emiratis. And with this flow, they end up buying luxurious cars either with their pay cheque or by taking loans.
But all of them don’t remain financially stable forever. Those who fail to cope with the financial crisis have only two options- either sell off everything to pay off the debt or flee Dubai.
Guess what?
The majority of bankrupt folks choose the latter option! Who leaves a country for just failing debt repayment? You wonder.
The answer is in the next section.
Sharia Law: A Primary Source of Legislation
Look, Dubai is not a democratic country with lenient financial laws like India. It is an Islamic nation with strict Sharia laws that spares no one even if you are an Emirati. Islam has high core values for debt and repayments. If you go bankrupt, then no human can save you from the strict laws of Dubai. You can never expect a drop of mercy from Arabian laws. Yes… it may cost your life. Undoubtedly, you will be jailed forever.
Who would risk his/her life just for a car? So, they opt for an obvious option- leave Dubai forever…
3. What happens with abandoned cars in Dubai?
If a car is abandoned by anyone, then the police can simply seize it, auction it, and sell it. But the whole process is a topsy turvy. Here is what happens to those cars-
Pile of Dust
The first obvious thing that happens with the car is the accumulation of dust over and inside the car. This not only makes the car look untidy but also affects the engine. Overall, the car’s performance is degraded. No matter how much you wash it, you can undo the damages caused by the abandonment. And yes, 30 days are enough for the dust to hamper the condition of a billion-dollar car.
Confiscation
So, as the 30 days pass, the police authorities contact the car owners to inform them about the 15-day warning time to claim their vehicle.
If the owner fails to do so, then the police seize the car. Still, after that, the car owner is given an additional six months to reclaim the vehicle by completing the required documentation work.
Who cares after all? If they had to reclaim it, then they would’ve never abandoned it in the first place. Isn’t it?
Auction
Six months pass by and still there’s no response from the owner. The local authorities are left with no choice but to auction the abandoned cars. This is the phase where folks like you have been waiting for ages! Those luxury cars are sold at much cheaper prices.
Literally, the lenders cry bloody tears to see such losses!
The auction occurs through invitation. You need to register yourself with the Dubai police and showcase proof that you can afford the car.
Here’s the process-
- Being a guest, you’ll receive a document mentioning the details of the cars presented in the auction.
- You must provide the Emirate ID and the deposit fee at the counter to register yourself in the live auction.
- You’ll be given a bidding number.
- You need to deposit 20% of your bidding limit. For instance, if your purchasing capacity is 1000,000 AED, you need to pay a security deposit of 20,000 AED. You can pay through bank deposit or credit card. If you are planning to pay through check then the amount will be 100% of your bidding limit.
- A panel consisting of 4-5 member will conduct the auction.
- If you place the highest bid, you can buy the car.
- You must complete the payment process within 48 hours and the supercar will be yours!
Can’t go to Dubai? No problem, you can buy through the dealer by bidding on your favorite deserted car.
But is this a golden opportunity for you to grab your dream car without killing your wallet?
Go through the next section, and you’ll find out!
4. Should you buy abandoned cars in Dubai for sale?
Legends say- “Every shiny stone isn’t a diamond!” Similarly, every supercar deserted on Dubai Street may not function as a supercar. Reason? Poor functioning, high maintenance cost, no guarantee, no services, and the list goes on…
So, even if you pay less than the actual price, it may not worth it.
Things to consider before buying the dumped cars of Dubai
Purchasing an abandoned car may not be very easy. You need to contact a licensed dealer and present all the required documents.
Here’s what you must consider before bidding on a dumped car-
- Inspect the condition of the dumped car carefully.
- Recheck the car’s information mentioned in the document such as- Vehicle Identification Number, Traffic File, Insurance Agreement, and most importantly original Emirates ID.
- Check the car’s accident history and other relevant information.
- Don’t rust and take your time to analyze if the cars are worth of your bidding value.
